habitat repairs
We offer home repair services to homeowners so they can continue to live in safe, decent homes for years to come. Some of our home repair work includes painting, landscaping, weatherization and minor repair services to preserve home exteriors and revitalize neighborhoods.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR HABITAT REPAIRS
In need of safe, affordable housing
What this need looks like will vary from community to community, but applicants may be dealing with substandard housing that is poorly built, damaged, or inadequate.
Low- to moderate-income
For U.S. applicants, household income must not exceed 60% of the area median income, which is defined annually by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. You can find the median income of your area and for your family size using the query tool from HUD’s Office of Policy Development and Research.

Once selected, homebuyers must partner with Habitat throughout the process. This partnership includes performing “sweat equity,” or helping to build their own home or the homes of others in our homeownership program.
Must be referred to Habitat by Partner Organization
Local families in need of assistance with preserving their homes are referred to Truckee Meadows Habitat for Humanity based on need by Partner Organizations.

Habitat for Humanity Family Story – Sparks, Nevada
In a quiet neighborhood in Sparks, Nevada, a small home carried a heavy weight: Two dilapidated bathrooms that had become symbols of years of deferred hope. One bathroom no longer functioned at all. The walls and plumbing were in disarray—unsafe, unusable, and overwhelming. For the homeowner, a woman of deep faith and steady perseverance, the repairs she desperately needed felt impossibly out of reach. In the homeowner’s own words:
“I was resigned to the fact that the much-needed updates and repairs would have to wait, at least a few more years,” she shared. “I am low income. I have been blessed with being able to buy this home and having a very dear person come live here too… but the damage was more than I could handle.”
Even in those hard seasons, she focused on gratitude: “God has blessed me with protection, clarity, love, church, friends, and an awesome pastor and his wife. My life has changed from despair to gratitude thanks to the Father and whom He brings in our life.”

Then Habitat for Humanity stepped into their story. When Habitat’s construction crewmembers, David and Kimberly arrived at her home, they found a home in severe disrepair. The situation was not just inconvenient—it was unsafe and unsustainable. Their presence brought immediate relief, but more importantly, renewed dignity and possibility.
“David and Kimberly from Habitat for Humanity are our latest blessing,” she said, filled with emotion. “I’m still finding myself in awe over what they are doing for us. This is one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me. I will pay it forward for as long as I live.”
Today, after full remodels of both bathrooms, her home is once again a place of safety, health, and stability. The transformation is more than drywall and plumbing—it is peace of mind, restored hope, and the assurance that she can live with comfort and dignity.
Stories like this cannot happen without support. The need in Sparks and across our region is growing. Families are living with unsafe structures, failing systems, and increasing need of critical repairs they simply cannot afford. Habitat for Humanity stands ready to serve, but we need the resources to meet the need.
